May 18-20 Update
The skies in Western PA cleared on Friday afternoon May 18th and a great night of racing action was in store for Del Rougeux Jr. and the Rougeux Motorsports Team at the Lernerville Speedway. “Lady Luck” was finally on Del’s side for the pill draw and the Vinyl Graphics Unlimited/Maloney Tool and Mold/Primetime Limousine 20D started in the second position of the first DIRT Modified heat race of the evening. Del immediately charged into the lead and held on for his first Lernerville Speedway heat race victory of the season!!
The 25 lap feature event found Del starting in the third position. Two fellow competitors waged a heated battle for the lead as Del patiently watched from the third position. Unfortunately Del was forced to outside on a restart and the 2007X Bicknell Chassis had been working much better on the inside so the Rougeux Motorsports Team had to settle for a third place. The good news is that as a result of Del’s consistent top five finishes at the speedway he is the new leader in the DIRT Modified divisional point standings!
Saturday evening the Rougeux Motorsports Team once again traveled to the Sharon Speedway in Hartford, OH. Del started in the fifth position in his heat race and finished a very respectable third as the checkered flag flew. The redraw for the 25 lap feature event found Del starting in the ninth position. The Rougeux Motorsports 2007X Bicknell Chassis quickly advanced to the third position as Del made a spectacular move using the inside groove to pass a fellow competitor however fate once again intervened and the right rear tire sealed over and a steady rain made the track surface very slick. Del was forced to skillfully drive the Vinyl Graphics Unlimited/Maloney Tool and Mold/Primetime Limousine for the remainder of the feature event and was able to bring home a very respectable sixth place finish. Not the results the Rougeux Motorsports Team had hoped for but a very respectable finish that solidly places Del in the second position of the Sharon Speedway Modified Point Standings.
Persistent rain showers continued into Sunday and the Tri-City Speedway was forced to cancel their program so Del Jr. and Del Sr. headed home to Frenchville to prepare for next week’s racing action that features the Dick Rankin Memorial on Sunday, May 27th. Del won the inaugural event in 2004 and is definitely poised to become the first repeat winner of this prestigious event. The Rougeux Motorsports Team will also make their regular stops at the Lernerville and Sharon Speedways prior to Sunday’s racing action at the Tri-City Speedway.
Don’t forget that Del will be a guest on the “Rappin on Racin” radio program on Monday, May 21st. The program is broadcast on station 810AM from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM each week.
