We couldn’t ask for a better day to race than Saturday afternoon, the temperature was 75 degrees and the track crew had a perfect racetrack. I started by pulling an 84 pill, which started us in the 9th spot in our heat. We passed several cars and were running 6th, while trying to make an outside pass work for 5th, I could not hold the high groove and slipped back to 7th. I had a few small changes I wanted to try in the consolation event, so we made the adjustments and went back to racing. The car was handling the middle of the corners better and we were able to move from 4th to 2nd in the consolation event. My choice of tires was slightly softer than the leader’s and about half way through the race I couldn’t move forward to pass him. We finished 2nd and prepared the car for the main event. We put on a new set of American Racer tires, and made a shock change to the Bilstein shocks, fueled the car and went back to work. Started 20th and started passing through the field, the Kriner motor was doing a great job, every restart we were able to pass at least one car. We would leave turn 4, tuck under the car and have the pass complete by the flag stand. I was very pleased with the performance of the whole car. We moved up and finished 10th, lap traffic was very hectic all day long, which made lead lap passing difficult while maneuvering lap traffic, mainly because with the sunshine and high temperatures the track was taking rubber and becoming one lane. I was happy with the progress we made, and the crew was on their game for the first event of 2009. We are now off until the Race of Champions race at Selinsgrove Speedway on Saturday, March 21st at 4:00 p.m. We will be continuing to prepare our equipment for the 2009 season which looks to be an exciting season. We are still compiling a schedule for 2009, which may be slightly different than in years past with Sharon Speedway changing their format for Saturday night racing. I can guarantee everyone; we will not be racing any less, just a little more traveling in our schedule. Details about our new schedule will be coming soon. Once again I would like to say “great job” to Shawn Wood from the Dirt Track Channel, who was broadcasting Saturday’s event from Hagerstown Speedway. Shawn took some time and did an interview with me about the “State of Sharon Speedway, and racing in western PA”, if anyone would be interested in listening to this it is archived and available to listen to at http://thedirttrackchannel.com/Webcast.html , the interview was played at intermission. Until next week’s update, I hope everyone has a great week and stays safe. Later, Del
