Steel City Stampede WIN !!
The inaugural Steel City Stampede at Lernerville Speedway is now history and team of the 20d modified are the first champions. Friday’s action got rained out and this moved the heat races to Saturday. We started 8th in our heat race and moved up to a 3rd place finish at the end of 10 laps. We then had to redraw for our starting position for Sunday’s 30 lap feature event. We pulled a number 4 so that meant we would be starting outside of row two.
Sunday morning we preformed our normal maintenance to the car a prepared it for action. There was only a b main for the stock cars before we went on the track, no classes were taking warm-ups. As I sat in the car in the lineup area I saw the track was dusting up quicker than I had expected, I spoke with my crew and they ran back to the trailer, got tools and parts and made a shock change and several other changes before I had to enter the racing surface.
When the green flag flew, the outside pole setter and myself took command of the race, by lap 4, I had passed the leader and now was setting the car on “cruise control” and rim riding the extreme top of turns 3 &4 and running a middle line through turns 1 &2 which still had a little bite left in those corners. There were several cautions throughout this event, but with every restart the car would hook up and get great bite leaving turn 4 and kept me in control of the race. We would continue to lead the rest of the event and win the first Steel City Stampede.
This was the final BRP Tour event of the 2009 season; we were tied in 2nd place in points going in to this event. When the points were all tallied, we stood alone in 2nd place, 5 points away from winning the championship. This was a very trying season with tire issues and several other uncontrollable problems, but we pushed on and had a decent season overall. I’m very happy with everyone involved with the team, and to win the final two races we had entered in, this is a great way to end the season.
Mr. & Mrs. Kriner drove out form Chambersburg,PA to attend Sunday’s race with us, and winning was a great way to show them “thanks” for all they do for us. I appreciate everything all my sponsors do to help our racing efforts, it’s what all you fine folks do that make this possible.
I will continue to keep everyone up to date on our progress of the cars and our schedule as the winter months come rolling in, until then “thank you for your support”.
Later,
Del
